Bonsai Tree – Black Pine / Pinus Thumbergii Tips And Information

Hello all bonsai devotees. How are you? My name is Suhendra. I tell my experience about how to keep, treat and create black pine bonsai. Perhaps this experience is only suitable for tropical and hope that those who plant black pine also have different experience to share. I have tried to plant black pine from 5 years ago (around 1980) when I got the seed from a friend traveling abroad.

I have met and fallen in love with black pine bonsai, since I learned about bonsai for two years from a foreign book on how to treat and create bonsai by practicing directly, so that little by little master. When I heard about that book, I saw a picture of black pine and Cemara (Junipero) bonsai that were so beautiful and sturdy. Even more so the black pine, with its cracked crust seemed so old, ancient and elegant. According to Taiwanese producer bonsai, black pine could live both winter and summer. At these stations, their leaves are still green and flourishing, so that we can call it evergreen. Of the books I've read, I am sure that this tree can grow in the tropics. From that moment, I was determined to get that type of tree and tried to plant and cultivate in Indonesia.

In the mids of 1980 and the old man who went to Taiwan to attend an international exhibition of bonsai. While searching for new special trees to enrich the variety of bonsai in Indonesia, from Taiwan that I brought home some types of bonsai that I had always been viewed in some foreign bonsai books we could not find in the Indonesian market (before 1985). They are: Hokkien Tea (Carmona mycrophylla) Pyracanta (Pyracanta Grenulata), Ulmus (Ulmus Parfiflora) Kimeng Karet (Ficus microcarpa). After purchasing the bonsai, one thing we must not forget to be my first goal of the search is Black Pine. Aside from my pocket money to return home, I passed the rest to buy various types of pine trees, from seeds, young trees, half-grown bonsai, bonsai and grow.

Some bonsai Taiwanese producer told me that Black Pine (Pinus Thumbergii) grows better than any other plant pine. There are three types of Black Pine:

1. Those with long leaves (which is generally spread in the market).
2. People who have short leaves (Seu Sung).
3. Those mini sheets (Zuenir Sau Hei Sung).

The three Black Pines are the most preferred by Taiwanese manufacturer that is dwarfed bonsai. Besides that, I have learned some techniques on how to plant and treat black pine that I want to share with you.

PROCESS Before Planting

Coming home, I had all my trees washed because it is forbidden to take the Taiwan soil. This is the regulation among countries to prevent the spread of plant pests. Then I opened the plastic cover of SOM (soil substitute covering the root to keep you hydrated throughout the trip) one by one. After all the roots that had been cleared of MOS was soaked with vegetable or vitamin liquid organic fertilizer for about an hour. The last thing to do was keep the soaking liquid plant and planted it in the pot.

MIDDLE PINE (Suitable for Casuarina = Juniperus too)

3 bg 1-2 mm sand (do not use sand dust) +
Bg a loose soil (Do not use sticky floor as clay, etc) +
1 bg humus (or compost to replace humus).

After thorough mixing, can be used to plant (you can see how plant in a pot on article of Loa Variegata). I have a little story on the sands. Around 1990 in Indonesia has found a sand pit (Pasir Gunung) perimeter of Malang, so called Pasir Malang (Malang sand pit). This type of sand was found by amateur and raw materials (sport gear) bonsai hunter in nature. The specialty of this sand is clean and free of dust or debris. We can say that it was free from pests and germs that are usually found in soil or sand hole. So there is no need to wash it more and has pores to keep water, and air. There are many types of plants are best planted in the sand instead of any other means, ie Santigie (Phempis acidula) Cemara Udang (Casuarina equisetifolia), Black Pine, Cemara, etc. Naturally Malang pit sand is beneficial for Some bonsai enthusiasts and devotees of ornamental plants such as cactus, Adenium, sansivera, etc. Then use this sand pit as composite media Black to the ground pine and other bonsai.

PROCESS AFTER HIGH

After being planted black pine in a pot, the trunk should always be firmly bound in the pot so that the tree is more stable. It's because any repotting tree is in the critical period. Its root has not converged with the new the media that has not functioned normally. Furthermore, when we cut some of the roots and new roots grow, the latter is still very easily turned off if it moves, and the tree will possibly died. After being tied up, put it in the shade, then water thoroughly (until water comes out the pot bottom hole). Let us be there for about two, but please do not leave it too wet or too dry. Better to keep a little dry to keep it too wet, to avoid getting root rot. This will be different from what we should do to the growing black pine (see the following description of supply water). After two weeks the trees look healthy and strong, with green leaves. It is now time for the tree has Sunbathing gradually. Then wait for new outbreak comes, which is a sign that your new root tree has grown and is ready to take a bath in full sun.

There are some fans bonsai unfamiliar media and the process of planting, or do not have much patience in planting and treating black pine (which is different maintenance ficus or any other type of bonsai). If you do bad treatment will result in the death of black pine. When this happens, easily say that the black pine, can not be planted in Indonesia or be dead if it is being re-potted. The worst is when there are bonsai hobbyists and sellers who just see picture of black pine bonsai in the books know the same thing. This makes the bonsai novice collectors of getting ripped off and not want to treat black pine.

GROWN BLACK PINE BONSAI TREATMENT

The pruning (cutting the leaves) can be do when we see that the older leaves yellow and has grown like a little boring. We can do this in two ways: shearing or pulling. The best way is the second, which gradually remove old leaves. To keep the group out of the leaves, use your left hand to hold the lower end of the set of leaves, and use your right hand to make the old man leaves one by one and let the younger ones. If you prefer the first form, cut the old leaves about 1 cm higher than the stem of the leaf. This is causing a new outbreak remaining old leaves. 1. Gradually remove the old leaves each year.

3. When the leaves of new shoots have grown, do not cut the branches too leaves when new growth has flourished because this phase, the trace of the court will release much turpentine (SAP) that may kill the tree. The best time to shape and cut the branches when we begin to see their old leaves (Looks yellow and dull). This shows that this tree is temporarily stop growing and energy savings before launching their new outbreaks. It is the safest time to prune black pine pulling or shearing, and cutting the branches as well, because it is the strongest period of the tree.

THE WAY OF Repotting / CHANGING BLACK EARTH OF BONSAI PINO

The process of transplanting black pine bonsai can be done once every three or four years, and following the slow-growing black pine. Do not replant within two years because their roots are not old enough. If replanting after four years, the roots will be too dense in the pot, and this will slow growth and fertilization.

Please repot this way. After pulling the bonsai pot, we can see the bit of root that has converged with the ground. In Indonesia, which has two seasons, the best time to repot is black pine between the end of the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season (early September), but pay attention to the condition of black pine as well. Repotting should carried out when new bud just before flowering to reach the leaves. When the leaves flower, the tree will be weak and the risk of transplant will be large.
