In addition, marathon swimming events for men and women, will be added to the swimming competition. Team events in table tennis will replace the doubles events.
Since December 2003, Beijing has been preparing for the arrival of the Olympic Games construction thirty-one locations. The focal points are the Beijing National Stadium Beijing National Aquatics Center. Other important places are the Olympic Green Convention Centre Olympic Park, Beijing National Indoor Stadium and Beijing Wukesong Cultural and Sports Center.
The opening and closing ceremony and some sports events (In football) will be held at the newly constructed Beijing National Stadium, also known as "The Bird's Nest." The nickname of the structure is due to their design that seems to be a bird's nest perched on top of a concrete structure. The stadium will host more than eighty thousand people games and ceremonies.
The Beijing National Aquatics Center is also known as the "Water Cube." The "Water Cube" will Headquarters for swimming and diving for the Games. He was recognized by Popular Science in 2006, "Best of What's New in Engineering", and 2004 won the award for "most accomplished work (section of the atmosphere)" by the Venice Biennale.
The Water Cube's structure is based on unique, lightweight, construction of the panels of a form of Teflon, which allows for greater penetration of light and heat than glass and transforms the building into an energy efficient environment greenhouse-like. In fact, solar energy also is used to heat swimming pools, which are designed to reuse double-filtered, washed pool water that is dumped as waste in general.
Excess rainwater is also collected and stored in underground tanks and used to fill the pools. The center is shaped like a square box designs interiors that are carved into a cluster of foam bubbles. The overall design makes the center look like a cube of bubbles.
Besides the locations, environment will certainly be a factor in the 2008 Olympics. Air pollution in China is at least two or three times what is considered safe by the Organization World Health Organization. Endurance sports may see a decrease in overall performance due to air pollution and the heat of August in Beijing. In fact, athletes Several countries have already indicated that they will arrive just before the game to limit their exposure to negative air quality in Beijing.
Politics always plays a role in the Olympics, and 2008 is no exception, especially since China is the host country. There are already several protest groups are doing violations News China's human rights and freedom of expression as follows:
"Human Rights Watch" and "Amnesty International" has published two reports denouncing China as failing to meet its Olympic human rights obligations.
"The Committee for the Protection of Journalists said China was still an obstacle and imprisoning foreign nationals journalists, despite promises to allow reporting.
"Reporters Without Borders" managed to stage a protest in Beijing, only to see the police briefly detain foreign journalists cover.
Human rights and freedom of expression in a problem for China, this kind of protest only get stronger as the Olympics approach.
The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, are destined to have the excitement of world-class competitive sport summer, the spectacle of the ceremonies Opening and closing more winners, the new competitive Olympic events, politics, human rights and the conflict between man and his environment.
The Olympic torch arrives in Beijing National Stadium on August 8, 2008. Mark this date on your calendar, as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad may well be a show not want to miss.
